Dear SDC Community,
Greetings and happy summer! It is quiet in the School of Design and Construction and Pullman which is indicative of summer at WSU. While these are increasingly challenging times for higher education, there is also much to celebrate in the SDC. The activities at the end of the semester – portfolio reviews, advisory board meetings, capstone events, design reviews, and engagement events – are wonderful opportunities for engagement among students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners. These events serve as a reminder, that despite the chaos, the rewards of being an educator are visible in every interaction. At this time of year, we also congratulate our graduates and celebrate the many successes of those in the SDC.
Our students and faculty continue to engage locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally via conferences, competitions, and study abroad programs. Many of these opportunities would not be possible without the continues support of our alumni, industry partners, and friends of the programs/SDC. Students and faculty benefit immensely via these opportunities – acquiring skills and knowledge to strengthen their future in the classroom and beyond.
This year we actively searched for new faculty to join the SDC. We are excited to announce that we successfully hired five new faculty – Tareq Abuimara (tenure-track – Architecture & Construction Management: structures), Jae Ko (tenure-track – Architecture), Di Liu (tenure-track – Construction Management), Apoorva Rane (tenure-track – Interior Design), and Shauni Sikder (career-track – Architecture). The five new faculty will be starting in the fall, and we are excited for them to contribute and become valued members of the school. We have also seen the addition of staff to our team too – Brittanie Brown (Advisor) and Nicole Leavitt (Fiscal Specialist). We are excited to see what the future will bring for the SDC!
