From the Director: An exciting start to 2025

Dear SDC Community,

We are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and faculty as we look forward to a great year ahead.  There is much to celebrate and many reasons to be optimistic about the future.

Our students are once again participating in various conferences, competitions, and international study programs—locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.  These experiences significantly enhance not only their current learning at WSU but also their future endeavors.  While classroom learning is undeniably crucial, these experiences have the potential to reshape perspectives and trajectories in exceptionally positive and enriching ways.

If you haven’t already, please check out our promotional and recruiting videos that have been created for the SDC, architectureconstruction management, interior design, and landscape architecture. We are quite proud of them and encourage you to share them with your networks and any prospective students or partners.

In addition to all the great things happening, it is a busy time in the SDC.  We are searching for five new faculty hires – 2 for architecture (tenure track and/or career track), 1 for construction management (tenure track or career track), 1 for structures (tenure track), and 1 for interior design (tenure track).  The process is progressing well with candidates on-campus for visits from mid-January through mid to late-March.  We also anticipate welcoming a new front office staff person and a new advisor in the coming months.

Thank you for your continued support of the SDC.  Your engagement in the classroom or studio enhances our ability to provide an excellent education to our students. The generous donations you provide enable us to offer resources that lead to student, faculty, and staff success.  Our alumni, industry partners, and friends of the School are instrumental to our success…thank you!

A new year ushers in new opportunities and challenges thus I am continuing with the Director’s Challenge.  This initiative is grounded in the reality that we need help to support our faculty and students to keep doing the great work we so greatly appreciate and respect.  I encourage our amazing alumni, industry partners, and friends of the SDC to help us garner needed philanthropic support for our students, faculty, and staff.  My personal commitment to match donations (between now and June 30th, 2025) up to $3,000 will continue as well.  The SDC is a truly special place with wonderful people.  I am constantly impressed with the work our faculty, staff, and students produce on a regular basis…so much so, that I’m willing to contribute to achieving this goal.  To learn more about this challenge, please go to our Excellence Fund page.

GO COUGS!
