Computer Software and Hardware
LAPTOP COMPUTER REQUIREMENT
All students coming into the SDC are required to have a laptop computer that meet certain specifications. SDC’s computing infrastructure is Windows-based and all software/class instruction is given on Microsoft Windows-based computers. Macbooks are strongly discouraged especially since newer devices no longer support Windows, and therefore many Windows-based design and construction softwares cannot fully function on Macbooks.
SDC Minimum Computer Requirements
- CPU: Intel® Core™ i7– 64-bit processor, 2.5 GHz, 4 cores
- RAM: 16GB (32GB Recommended) DDR5, 4800 MHz
- GPU: 4GB Dedicated (discrete) – NVidia RTX 4050, RTX A1000, OpenGL 4.1
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
- Display: 15″ 1080P or higher with True Color HiDPI display support
- HD Camera
Computer Access Support
You must provide the funding for your own laptop. This gives you your choice of vendor and equipment. Depending on your circumstances, financial aid may be available.
WSU Coretech has purchase options and offers an educational discount to students. If purchasing a laptop is not an option, the WSU Libraries have short term rental options (4-hour, no cost).
All SDC students also have direct access to the computers at the Trimble Technology Lab from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays and remote access after 5:00 PM. See more information about the softwares available at the Trimble Lab Site.
