Don Bender, Weyerhaeuser Professor and Interim Dean of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture (VCEA), announced today that Professor Gregory Kessler has accepted the position of Interim Director of the School of Design and Construction effective May 15, 2017.

“Professor Kessler has the experience and dedication to provide strong leadership during this year of transition.  It is anticipated that Professor Kessler will serve for approximately one year while an external search for a permanent Director takes place.  Dean Rezac is committed to working with the School to develop a structure that will not only succeed but thrive.  VCEA’s new Dean Mary Rezac will officially start at WSU on July 1, and she will meet with the SDC staff and faculty soon thereafter to discuss a path forward.”

Bender also acknowledged Dr. Phil Gruen for his passionate leadership of the School for these past three years, “Dr. Gruen has done a great job of leading the School and representing your interests to two different colleges.  Having a School that spans two colleges puts extra strain on the Director, and Dr. Gruen has handled the situation with skill and class.  Dr. Gruen will take a professional development leave this coming year, and we wish him the very best as he transitions back to the faculty.”

Bender released the announcement on behalf of Dean Ron Mittelhammer (College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences), Dean Mary Rezac, and himself while expressing his pleasure to serve this past year as interim dean of VCEA. “I’m impressed with your School, and I share you excitement for a bright future.”
